Maybe before we talk about how to make our target audience happy - we need to define that audience first? when was the last time any of us did some thorough, in depth market research, surveys, focus groups - about who the audience is and what they want?

good idea!
a forum like this one then also allows insight into peoples interests etc...
...by understanding what delegates would like to see come out of Captivate, would allow the planning for it to be themed and clearly outlined... _________________ Gregor

thats a great idea!
I am also talking about newspaper's doing some market research to see what their audience want. Market research or focus groups should happen annually as people's likes/dislikes etc... are constantly changing! _________________ carpe diem |

I totally agree Carls...one of the workshops I am hoping we can have at Captivate next year will deal with just that topic...if I can find someone to run it! _________________ Peter Barlow

In a weird kind of way that's something I'd like to see the SRC do... I dunno... I was SRC for Media this past year, and it sort of seeming logical, at the end of the day. We didn't do it though. But it's something I'm thinking of suggesting to the new member. _________________ Uno de Waal

Uno: The campus media at Stellies must have a different relationship with the SRC than the campus media here at Rhodes...at Rhodes they are totally separate entities with the SRC media councillor being nothing more than a spokesperson for the SRC...and thats a job thats not done properly at any rate.
It sounds like the SRC are more involved where you are...in that case you are lucky as this potentially allows you to get access to resources...but this is a double-edged sword as your independence could be compromised.
I know from chatting to some of the student newspaper staff at Varsity, the student paper at UCT, if their SRC was more involved in the paper it would be nothing more than Pravda was in "liberated" Russia- a mouth-piece for the ANC Youth League which seem to dominate the SRC leadership at UCT... _________________ Peter Barlow
